The SATOA*  events proudly celebrate the local tastes of North Savo, providing opportunities to sample seasonal dishes made by local businesses from mainly local ingredients. (*Satoa means harvest in Finnish)

In June the wild food festival SATOA Goes WILD takes place in Kuopio, turning the city centre into a large food festival area for the weekend. WILD combines eating together, taking exercise and enjoying culture. The leading role in the event is played by local wild ingredients, from which delicious portions are created by top local restaurants.SATOA Goes WILD is a "food walk"-type wild food adventure in Kuopio city centre, where your guide is the festival passport with its map. The festival route is formed by brick-and-mortar restaurants in the city centreand pop-up restaurants in the courtyards of historically valuable buildings. Besides food, SATOA Goes WILD has plenty of free side events along the route: dancing, music and art installations. You can participate in the event by buying a stampable festival passport, which also serves as an entrance ticket to the event. For an extra charge, the restaurant stalls sell a variety of suitable drinks to gowith the wild food menu.

Yearly in August, Kuopio is being celebrated with the gastronomic treats of the SATOA Kuopio Food Festival. The August SATOA is a festival of local tastes, where you can buy and sample small portions of food for 3-6 euros in the spirit of street food culture and also enjoy the festival programme and performances. The SATOA street food festival was first held in 2014, when it was also rewarded by the City of Kuopio as the Phenomenon of the Year. In 2018, the event attracted about 20,000 visitors and 40,000 portions were sold. In 2017, Visit Finland and the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences chose the event as one of Finland's 14 top culinary tourism products.The event has no age limit (some of the stalls have licensed areas) and admission is free. There are approx. 20-25 restaurant stalls
